Why I Don't Use Subliminal Techniques

I've
extensively studied the mind, self improvement, meditation, EMDR,
biofeedback and subconscious mind reprogramming techniques for many
years. After researching and reading most everything available on
subliminal techniques, I and the majority of researchers in the field
concluded that the techniques I use are far more effective than
subliminal tapes or CDs.
While
there is some research on the effects of subliminal techniques, it isn't
sufficient for me to use them. Furthermore, in my opinion, the problems
far outweigh the potential benefits.
Also,
while you can’t use EMDR or hypnotize anyone to do anything that they
would be strongly unwilling to do consciously anyway, the techniques we've
developed have a much higher ratio of effectiveness with those who ARE
willing to change.
Subliminal
advertising is generally used to point to the effectiveness of
subliminal self-improvement or self-help techniques.
However, to me that also brings up concerns. They have been used
as methods to manipulate us outside of our normal conscious awareness.
Most therapists want people
to be more aware consciously, not less. Consider the problem
then, of using a technique that makes our ability to resist manipulation
weaker, such as subliminal methods do.
My opinion is that in order to
maintain a healthy strong will, such methods should be avoided. Since
they are unnecessary for self help and less effective than other
techniques, why use them?
